Best Time for Umrah — Seasons, Crowds and Prices Compared

Updated July 2026

There is no wrong time for Umrah — but there are very different experiences. The right month for you balances three things: spiritual preference, crowd tolerance, and budget.

Ramadan — the greatest reward, the greatest rush

The Prophet ﷺ said that Umrah in Ramadan equals a Hajj in reward, and the Haram in Ramadan is an experience nothing else matches. The trade-offs are real: packages cost 1.5–2× more, hotels sell out months ahead, and the last ten nights are intensely crowded. If Ramadan is your intention, book 3–6 months in advance and prepare physically for long, packed nights of worship.

Winter (November–February) — the comfortable sweet spot

Makkah's winter daytime temperatures sit in the pleasant mid-20s °C, and Madinah is cooler still. Tawaf on the open mataf is comfortable even at noon. Prices are moderate outside the late-December school-holiday spike. For elderly pilgrims and families with children, this is usually the best window.

Post-Hajj months (Muharram–Safar) — the budget window

The two months after Hajj are the quietest of the year. Hotels drop rates significantly, agencies run their cheapest departures, and the Haram feels spacious. Summer heat is the trade-off — daytime temperatures in Makkah can exceed 45 °C — so plan worship for nights and early mornings.

School holidays and long weekends

Indian school-holiday periods — May–June and late December — see family demand surge and prices climb even though they are not religiously significant seasons. If you are not tied to school calendars, avoiding these windows saves real money.

Booking lead times

As a rule of thumb: book Ramadan packages 3–6 months ahead, winter packages 2–3 months ahead, and off-peak packages 3–6 weeks ahead. Visa processing itself needs only days, but the good hotels at good prices go early. Browse current departures on Nusayr to see live dates and seat availability.
