Key Sites
- ◆Masjid al-HaramThe Grand Mosque surrounds the Kaaba. It is the largest mosque in the world and the holiest site in Islam. Enter with the right foot, reciting the entry dua.
- ◆Zamzam WellLocated inside the Haram basement. Drink facing the Kaaba, in three sips, with intention. Water is freely available throughout the mosque.
- ◆Safa & MarwaTwo hills connected by a marble corridor inside the Haram. Sa'i (walking between them 7 times) is performed after Tawaf.
- ◆Jabal al-NourThe Mountain of Light hosts the Cave of Hira where the first revelation was received. About 45-min climb. Best visited early morning.
- ◆Jabal ThawrCave of Thawr is where the Prophet ﷺ sheltered during the Hijra. Longer and steeper than Jabal al-Nour. Allow 1–2 hours.
- ◆Jannatul MuallaHistoric cemetery in Makkah. Resting place of Khadijah (RA) and other family members of the Prophet ﷺ. Open between prayers.
Practical Tips
- ◆Carry a printed map of the Haram — mobile signal is often weak inside.
- ◆Memorise your hotel name and zone number before entering the Haram.
- ◆Use the numbered gates as meeting points (Gate 79 faces Zamzam).
- ◆Crowd is lightest between Fajr and sunrise — ideal for Tawaf.
- ◆Zamzam water stations are on every floor; carry a reusable bottle.
- ◆Wheelchair and golf-cart services are available at the Haram.
- ◆Electric scooters are banned inside Makkah city limits.
- ◆Keep ihram belt tight; loose cloth causes accidents on escalators.
