Sleeping & Waking
Before sleeping
Bismika Allahumma amootu wa-ahyaa
In Your name, O Allah, I die and I live.
— Sahih Bukhari 6312
Upon waking up
Alhamdu lillaahil-ladhee ahyaanaa ba'da maa amaatanaa wa-ilayhin-nushoor
All praise is for Allah who gave us life after causing us to die, and to Him is the resurrection.
— Sahih Bukhari 6312
Three times before sleeping
Allahumma qinee 'adhaabaka yawma tab'athu 'ibaadak
O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants.
— Abu Dawud 5045
Lying down to sleep — whoever dies that night dies upon the fitrah
Allahumma aslamtu nafsee ilayk, wa fawwadtu amree ilayk, wa wajjahtu wajhee ilayk, wa alja'tu dhahree ilayk, raghbatan wa rahbatan ilayk, laa malja'a wa laa manjaa minka illaa ilayk. Aamantu bikitaabikal-ladhee anzalt, wa binabiyyikal-ladhee arsalt
O Allah, I submit my soul to You, entrust my affair to You, turn my face to You, and rely completely upon You — in hope and fear of You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book which You revealed and Your Prophet whom You sent.
— Sahih Bukhari 247
Before sleep — the Prophet's ﷺ gift to Fatimah (RA), better than a servant
SubhaanAllah (33), Alhamdu lillaah (33), Allahu Akbar (34)
Glory be to Allah (33 times), all praise is for Allah (33 times), Allah is the Greatest (34 times).
— Sahih Bukhari 3705
