Seeking Forgiveness
Sayyid al-Istighfar — the master of seeking forgiveness, morning & evening
Allahumma anta rabbee laa ilaaha illaa ant, khalaqtanee wa ana 'abduk, wa ana 'alaa 'ahdika wa wa'dika mas-tata't. A'oodhu bika min sharri maa sana't, aboo'u laka bini'matika 'alayya wa aboo'u bidhanbee, faghfir lee fa-innahu laa yaghfirudh-dhunooba illaa ant
O Allah, You are my Lord; there is no god but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and I keep Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favour upon me, and I acknowledge my sin — so forgive me, for none forgives sins except You.
— Sahih Bukhari 6306
Sincere istighfar — forgiven even for grave shortcomings
Astaghfirullaahal-ladhee laa ilaaha illaa huwal-hayyul-qayyoomu wa atoobu ilayh
I seek the forgiveness of Allah — there is no god but Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer — and I repent to Him.
— Abu Dawud 1517
The Prophet ﷺ said it a hundred times in one sitting
Rabbi-ghfir lee wa tub 'alayya innaka antat-tawwaabur-raheem
My Lord, forgive me and accept my repentance. Truly, You are the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful.
— Abu Dawud 1516
Dua of Yunus (AS) — no Muslim calls with it except that Allah answers
Laa ilaaha illaa anta subhaanaka innee kuntu minadh-dhaalimeen
There is no god but You; glory be to You. Truly, I have been among the wrongdoers.
— Quran 21:87 / Tirmidhi 3505
