Death & Janazah

1

On any loss or calamity

Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon. Allahumma-jurnee fee museebatee wakh-luf lee khayran minhaa

Truly, to Allah we belong and truly, to Him we return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Sahih Muslim 918

2

Consoling the bereaved

Inna lillaahi maa akhadh, wa lahu maa a'taa, wa kullu shay'in 'indahu bi-ajalin musammaa, faltasbir waltahtasib

To Allah belongs what He took and to Him belongs what He gave, and everything with Him is for an appointed term — so be patient and hope for His reward.

Sahih Bukhari 1284

3

For the deceased in the funeral prayer

Allahumma-ghfir lahu warhamhu, wa 'aafihi wa'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi' mudkhalahu

O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him wellbeing and pardon him, honour his arrival and widen his entrance (grave).

Sahih Muslim 963

4

When visiting graves

Assalaamu 'alaykum ahlad-diyaari minal-mu'mineena wal-muslimeen, wa innaa in shaa'allaahu bikum laahiqoon, nas'alullaaha lanaa wa lakumul-'aafiyah

Peace be upon you, O dwellers of these abodes from the believers and Muslims. Indeed we will — if Allah wills — join you. We ask Allah for wellbeing for us and for you.

Sahih Muslim 975
